The Laboratory of Operations Research and Probability Theory
was founded in 1953. In 1969 the Laboratory was split in two, – namely, the
Laboratory of Operations Research, and the Laboratory of Probability Theory and
Statistical Simulation. The first Head of the Laboratory was Professor Dr. Joseph
V. Romanovsky. Now he is Professor at the Department of Mathematics and
Mechanics of SPbSU. Professor Dr. Boris A. Novikov is the Head of the
Laboratory since 1992.
The Laboratory closely collaborates with the Chair of Operations Research
at the Department of Mathematics and Mechanics of
Saint Petersburg State University. Many former employees of laboratory work now
at the Chair of Operations Research and cooperate with laboratory.
